Black Friday came and went, and I finished up an exciting night on FTP Friday before it all shut down on me. Enjoyed myself playing some 2-7TD (Finished 11th out of 65), followed up PotLimit Omaha (Finished 51st out of 928) for a little profit (like that matters now!), and finished up with a NL Hold 'em, (Finished 21st out of 826). A pretty good night for what was to be my last night online.

But I was still feeling good, cause I had my poker group that I play with, and we had a tournament on Saturday afternoon. I had run pretty bad during the series, and ended up having to win the 1 PM tournament (24 players) in order to get an automatic entry into the final tournament. Played good, but wasnt gettng much in the way of cards, but held on and made the right plays to keep myself alive. Then it happens.....we lose a player on another table and about to go on break. My table is still in a hand, and I look down and see AA. I raise to 2.5x blind, thinking there is no way anyone is even calling me. I get an all-in from the host. Everyone else folds, and I call. He flips of KK. Flop is 8-J-6, Turn is 2, River...... King. I am out of the tournament. I say my goodbyes and head home, happy with how I played.

But I am still feeling good, because at least I have a place to play live, that I dont have to drive forever (3 1/2 hour to Atlantic City), or play cash games (No tournaments yet to my knowledge at Charles Town Races and Slots).

On my way to Church on Sunday, and it all comes crashing down. I get a phone call from a good friend of mine, who actually plays in the poker group with me, and had made the finals. I ask him how he did, and he says "oh, I guess you didnt hear anything then". This seems bad, I asked what happened. The next 15 minutes become a complete blur, as he explains that less then 5 minutes into the final tournament, another player who I am friends with accuses a player of cheating, and all hell breaks loose. A player who had been running this game over for 4 years i assused of cheating. I won't go into the specifics, but they was video proof that he had been changing cards so that he would be getting AA, KK, QQ, and the like a much higher rate then you would normally see. He had won the points title the last 3 years running, and actually beat my wife in the final tournament 2 years ago. At this point, no one can say when he started doing it, but the proof is there, and now the group is done.

So in a period of 48 hours, I have gone from any number of possiblities of playing at a moments notice, to maybe playing a few times a year.

So for those of you who still may be reading. THANK YOU! I appreciate all of it. I enjoyed playing online with all of you, and reading about your games, and your lives. I hope to someday still get to meet some of you, while this year at the WSOP isnt likely due to family considerations, I have high hopes to get out there in 2012, and will now make sure to schedule it so I can meet some of you!!

WSOP Circuit Main Event

While I played well, the cards were not in my favor during the main event. I had a very aggressive table, which I can usually play well against if I am getting even a small selction of playable cards. However, for lasing 9 hours, I only got three pocket pairs the entire time (33 & 55 which were unableable considering my position and the action prior to it even being my bet. My KK ended up costing my 1/4 of my stack, as I bet 100/200 blinds I got called preflop when I re-raised to 1,900 chips and after the flop my 2,500 bet was called. I checked the turn and river when the third club showed on the turn, and sure enough was beat when I had been called on my raises by Ac5c. My only two other playable hands were A10 (which I won a small pot), and AhKh right after the dinner break (which I double up on!). I ended up finally succumbing to the blinds and pushed 78off into AJ, and the JxJxQx flop and nothing on the turn helping me ended my tournament. I did manage to finish 151st out of 442, so for as card dead as I was, I was happy how I played and managed ot outlast almost two thirds of the field!

Quick Update - WSOP Circuit Events - Atlantic City

I know I havent updated much lately, have been very busy with work and family. We decided to take a quick vacation for the last weekend of the WSOP Circuit Events, and I played in the last Mega-Satellite to the WSOP-C Main Event. Got 97 players, which then paid out 19 seats and cash for 20th place. Tough going early, as I won only 4 hands in the first 4 blind levels, with 89off in the small blind actually winning with just a pair 9's, 49off winning in the big blind by turning a straight against 3 other players, and my 99 and KK both holding up for my only two pocket pairs early. By level 6 I was down to 6 BB when I got AK, and pushed and got two callers (one all in). The all-in was short and had nothing, the other player had AK also, and we ended up chopping the pot. A few hand later I got AA, and pushed against the same guy that had AK previously, who called with JJ. I floped an Ace, but had got a flush draw on the turn, and he got there on the river. As I was getting up, it was pointed out that the club that fell also paired the board, giving me a boat and new life. From there I rode my average stack to a seat in the WSOP-C Main Event, and play that today starting at 12 Noon!

Poker Content!

Yes, I do actually still play poker! Decided to try a do or die with the rest of my Full Tilt bankroll last Wednesday, with me sitting a just under $35, I took two shots at satellites to the 50/50, since I figured if I won on of them I could play wiht the next day being a day off for me. Play a $7.70 SNG, and naviagated a minefield of bad play by others to end up in the final three. The chip lead went back and forth between the three of us, until a badly timed bluff ended the tournament for the player to my left, leaving me heads up but at a 2-1 chip disadvantage. Using a bit of agression I was able to take the chip lead after about20 hands, and 4 hands later won the tourament! So far so good, but I was already playing the $14 MTT for another 50/50 seat, and jumped out to a nice chip stack early on. Played a semi-tight agressive style throughout, and easily won a 2nd seat to the 50/50! Decided to just cash both seats out and play the Very Josie instead, which ended far to early as I was getting a too agressive and let the betting of other dictate how I was going to play (Yes, I am looking at you HeffMike and Very Josie!). Went out 8th, but still have a GREAT time playing the Very Josie and a good night on the tables. Played my WSOP group on Friday night, and as is uncommon for me in those tournament, I actually got off to a nice steady build of chips early, and was easily at on above the average chip stack most of the night until we got down to 5 players. At that point, I was 4th in chips, and was picking my spots to get my chips in. I watched as a very poorly timed Hammer bluff was by the chip leader was called down by the 2nd place in chips, leading to a HUGE stack by one player. Let everyone else take desperation shots at the new chip leader, and played my two good hands as three others were elimiated and I ended up heads up! Down 4 to 1 in chips, I ran my Pocket 3's into Pocker 4's but spiked a 3 on the river, and actually at one point took the chip lead! It didnt work out though, as my A8 was eventually outflopped by KJ, and I was crippled again and finished 2nd. Still awaiting the overall standing after 3 (of 5) events, but I am definately still in the running for the overall win and Main Event WSOP seat if I play good the last two tournaments!

It's been 2 Months??

Wow, I didnt even realize it has been that long, until I read comments on my last post from Lightning and Bam-Bam asking about my trip to Vegas, which as LAST month! It just seems like life is getting in the way of poker. I guess that is what happens when you have a kid at 39! She turns 2 in December, and is becoming more talkative and smart every day. The Vegas trip was great, I only got to play poker twice the entire trip, once finishing 3rd in a SNG. Super Turbo with the guy that won being a complete drunk who was a regular as the poker room so....
Got to get remarried in a wonderful little ceremony, saw the Freemont Street Experience again, and the fountains at the Bellagio for the first time. Generally had a great time. Have been playing very infrequently online, maybe once a week, and even then just a Steps touranment or two, currently have two Step 2 ($8.80) tokens. My life events, I have the two series I play in that both had their first events in October. The WSOP group I finished 7th (out of 20), so I am still in the running, but need to not finshing any worse then that the rest of the way out. The TDSOP group I finished a disappointing 17th out of 40, but earned a few points and feel comfortable that with a little smarter play I should easily qualify for the final tournament. Of course the wife plays in the TDSOP group also, and finished fifth, so I guess she is the better player right now!

Vegas Bound!

My wife and I have decided to head to Vegas later this month to renew our vows for our 5th Anniversary. Definately looking forward to getting to Vegas for the first time in a 18 months, a little gambling and a lot of fun! We will have the cutest little flower girl in our 21 month old daughter, and hope that if any of you bloggers are living there or will be in Vegas the week of Sept 22-27, that we can get a chance to meet up!

$3 Tournamnet and Charles Town Races & Slots

Friday Mrs CEM and I managed to make it up to Charles Town Races, which had just statted doing table games on July 4th Weekend. From what we had heard that first weekend was a total zoo, so we waited a couple of weeks. The Good: The table games are literally as soon as you come in the door from the Valet (which is only $6), so very easy to find. Plenty of games, including Craps, Blackjack, Three Card Poker, Roulette, Let It Ride, Pia Gow Poker, even a Big Wheel. There actually seemed to be a few open seats if you looked (mind you we got there at 5:30 PM on a Friday, so those from DC/Baltimore were still on their way from work/home. The Bad: Dealers were amazingly slow and showed very little understanding of the games they wer dealing. I am a huge fan of Pia Gow, but it shoudlnt take 7 minutes to deal, determine winners, and pay out for 6 players playing a hand of Pia Gow Poker! The other major issue were the limits. $25 was the cheapest table found (except for Let It Ride, which was $15, and the Big Wheel which was $10!) when we got there at 5:30, by the time we left after Midnight the minimum at Blackjack had hit $50.
The poker room as basically a tarped off/darkened area where the horse racing upstairs betting was done. They had a number of games, both Limit (5/10 and 10/20) and No Limit (1/2), plus some 4/8 Omaha. There sign up screen showed a waiting list for the most popular choice there (1/2 No Limit) was at 121 people before 6 PM Friday night. No tournaments were shown to be planned at casual glance. So they are definately going through their growing pains right now, but there is at least hope for the future.

On Saturday night, I played the Daily Dollar and went out about 1/2 through the field, and decided to fire up a $3 Double Stack 6 Max tournament, which had a nice structure and 487 runners. A beat in the first hour put me at 1500 chips early, but I worked on playing TAG, and found myself moving up the board well for the following couple of hours. 54 people cashed, which I easily made it past, but once we got down to 5 table, I was having to play short stack ninja poker, pushing and/or stealing in the best opportunities. Even though I was 25th of 25 at one time, I played my stack back up long enought to last all the way to 13th place, winning about 4 times my buy-in.

Starting Anew

Have played a little bit in the past few days. I played 4 $1 9 man Turbo SNGs. These thigns are a wonder to play. Some of the worst players ever, as I tried a Tight Agressive approach, and after a few early exits realized that for $1, these people really dont care at all about playing well. I did finally manage to adjust my game well enought to take a 3rd place in the final of the 4 SNGs, but even then I managed to get chased down two hands in a row when we got the money AIPF with me ahead both times! I also played some .01/.02 cash. 2 sessions of about 30 minutes each. First session was very unexciting, with a very quiet tight table, and I managed to grind out a $0.24 profit. The 2nd session was much more interesting, where I stacked the player to my left when his pocket 6s flopped a set, but I turned a bigger set with my Pocket Kings, and the river pairing the board got him to call my all-in. I managed to finish up $1.78 (almost a full buy in), so I think I will continue on my playing the micro cash games as well as adjusting my game to the level of player in the $1 SNGs for now. Bankroll is about even after the week.

Trip to Charles Town Races and Slots tonight with Mrs. CEM to check out the table games and bet some on the horses!

Missing In Action

Yes, it has been a while since I have posted. My self imposed leave from online poker is pretty much still in effect, as I have managed to put my bankroll on Full Tilt below $100, and I sit at a mere $16 on PokerStars. I have played a couple of SNGs, with very limited success, but decided last Friday to play a $3 MTT, which I finished a fine 14th place out of 382 for a $12 profit.

So what have I been doing, you may ask yourself, or maybe not, I would not be surprise if anyone is even bother to read anymore. It seems like I am not the only person that has gone missing as far as Poker Blogging, with even those that still do blog not blogging as often or as much. Not sure if it just another let down period after the BBT5, or maybe with everything else going on that the Poker Bloggers are just moving on into other stages in their lives.

At least with me, my family has continued to be a far more encompassing part of my time. My daughter K is now 19 months old, and really its not just changing some diapers, keeping her fed, and watching her sleep anymore. All the interaction that I do with her keeps me so busy that by the time she is ready for bed, I am ready to get the other things I need to have done with/for my wife and or myself.

Does this mean the end of this blog? Or me playing poker? NO! It is just a shift in priorities for now. I am actually working on my game, but on the learning side from reading books instead of playing currently. I feel that I had been running bad to a point where I was letting it affect my play. Was I actually runnding bad, or playing bad? Probably a little of both. So I am going to work on my game. Do I still have big goals in mind? YES! I hope to play in the 2011 WSOP. I will be a part of a 20 person tournament series again that the winner plays in the Main Event (I actually finished 4th last year, after winning the 1st tournament I just played badly for a couple afterwards). So there is always that, or trying to win myself a seat again for a $1,500 Event. I also plan to play at either the Harrah's or Ceasers Atlantic City WSOP Circuit Event (most likely an event that is the day before/after the ladies event, so the wife and I can make a weekend out of it).

So I hope to be playing more soon, but will likely be "starting anew" as far as my bankroll, and following proper bankroll startagies, so it is unlikely I will be playing many of the Blogger tournaments for a while, until I build back up the bankroll and feel I am playing a better game.

Taking a break from online poker

Last night finally did me in for playing online for a while. I am running as badly as possible at the wrong time, even though I think my reads and decision making is probably at it best. I decided to play a $6 Sat to the $30K last night, which has a $100+$9 buy-in. I did not plan on playing the $30K, but instead wanted to use the Tournament dollars and/or Ticket to play other things this weekend. Played good poker, and even being card dead for 2 hours I made the final table (Had QQ once, 88 once, A10 three times....and that was it!). Once I hit the final table I was finally getting cards and when I chipped up to take the chip lead with 7 left (only 2 seats were awarded), I used my chip stack to my advantage to steal and push people around. We get down to three handed....I have 22K, the other two players are both between 12K and 13K. One goes all in, and the other calls! So one is out or severly cripple..right??? WRONG! The board flushes, and they split the pot. Not two hands later I get the small stack all in with AK against my pocket 8's, and he spike the king on the river. Now I am short stacked, and fight for my life, finally pushing my AQ into KQ, and he flops the king and I cant catch up. If this had been an isoloated issue, I probably would not be as upset, but this has been happening since before the BBT5 started, so it has been almost 2 months of this. I have lost 1/2 my bankroll, and think I just need to take some time off from playing online and let someone else take the beating for a while. I will be back, but probably not until I can sit down and not feel that not matter how good I am going to play the cards will be running against me.

BBT5 Thoughts

Not much happened for me during the BBT5, family and work made it difficult for me to play much other than the invitational, and I played most of those badly. I finally did play better in the one last night, but eventually went card dead and even with some timely steals, ran into BadBlood late who called my all-in (I had Ad5d), with Q9 off, which of course he spiked the Queen on the river. Finished 21st, not the greatest finish, but I was happy how I played, and by far my best finsh of the BBT this time around. Looking forward to the Freeroll on June 6th for the $2,000 package, its better than nothing for those of us who did not play well enough to get a seat to the TOC. Good luck to all of those in the TOC, I know they will play well and represent the bloggers in the WSOP this year.

Weekend Poker

Played more then my usual amount of online poker this weekend. Started on Saturday, when I decided to give a Rush Tournament a change at 8 PM. What an unbelieveable thing that was. Played my tight-semi aggresive game, and it paid off well for me, plus didnt have to invest a huge amount of time. There were over 850 players, and I actually lasted 2 3/4 hours. In usual tournament that would not have gotten me much, but in the rush tournament, I ended up seeing 712 hands (yes, that is correct), and finally went out in 17th place when my AK couldnt catch up against KK.
Sunday of course meant the BBT5 Invitational, which I lasted a while, but got knocked out by QueensUp when he flopped two Aces with his AK call of my QQ reraise. I got my money in ahead (AIPF), so I am happy with how it ended up. At the same time I was playing the $15K SuperStack (A new favorite of mine - $10 buy-in, 5000 chips, very nice blind structure). Actually was up to 2nd in chips just as we hit the cash, but my QQ vs KK lost 1/3 of my stack soon after that, and blinded down to the average stack when I finally pushed my KQ on a K high flop, and got called by K2, who proceeded to turn the 2 and get my chips for me to go out 104th of 2400+. All in all, I was happy with how I played this weekend, getting my money in good almost every time, and have some well placed aggression to work on my stealing of blinds and pots that I would not have won otherwise, which has previously been a weaker part of my game.

The Battle of the Blogger 5 Tournament of Champions: May 27

The BBT5 will last six weeks, culminating in a Tournaments of Champions scheduled for Thursday, May 27th. The prizepool for the ToC is impressive: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers will each receive a $10,000 entry into the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event as well as room accommodations at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino. 4th and 5th place finishers will receive a $2,000 Bracelet Race package good for many of the preliminary 2010 WSOP events.

To qualify for the Battle of the Blogger 5 Tournament of Champions, you need to be a top player in one of the following tournaments:

Poker from the Rail Series: Mondays at 22:00ET

On April 19th we are introducing our new Poker From the Rail tournament series and everyone is welcome to join us for this deepstack NLHE event with a buyin of $24+2 (or token) starting at 22:00ET. In addition to first place money from the prizepool, the winner will earn an entry into the BBT Tournament of Champions. The Poker From the Rail tournament will run each Monday from April 19th through May 24th.

The Mookie: Wednesdays at 22:00ET

The Mookie tournament is one of the longest running blogger-hosted events on Full Tilt. It’s been running so long, in fact, that the original blogger-host has retired and the tournament is now being hosted by the folks at Buddy Dank Radio who have been running a fine game. This tournament, also a deepstack NLHE format, runs each Wednesday at 22:00ET with a $10+1 buyin. Every Mookie winner between April 21st and May 26th will also earn an entry into the BBT Tournament of Champions.

The Invitational: Sundays at 19:00ET

The last ToC qualifying event is the Sunday evening Invitational, 6 events fielded by many of your favorite poker bloggers, players, and media personalities. Full Tilt has invited a lot of old school poker bloggers to battle the younger generation, the mainstream media, and a few surprise celebrities. It’s a great chance to rail the writers you’ve been reading for years while they play for one of the two ToC entries up for grabs in each tournament.

After the ToC is one final event: the Blogger Battle Royale, a freeroll thank you to all the participating bloggers. The stakes: a $2,000 WSOP Bracelet Race package and another $2,000 in cash. World Series of Poker AC Circuit Event Results

Had a great time in AC this weekend, considering I never left the casino since the weather was so bad. My wife played in the Ladies event on Sunday, her first World Series type event ever. She lasted 4 1/2 hours, and outlasted over 100 people in a field of 174. I say people, as there were actually 4 men who signed up of the event. The cheers were deafening each time one of them would get knocked out. They should have joined the other husbands in walking over to Bally's and playing in the $50 donkathon they had at 1 PM.

My event was really good, I was very happy with the way I played. I played my usual tight game, with two particular hands that I am rather proud of my results from, and they both happened within 20 minutes of each other in the 4th hour (remember this was a Turbo tournament, so over half the field was gone by then). The first was when I limped in on the small blind wiht 5h8h. The flop cam 8 high, and actually did not improve any more from there, but it also didnt fill my straight or flush draws. A crazy asian kid 2 seats to my left took a stab at it on the river, and I actually called with only top pair, and won a nice pot when he was trying to pressure me with nothing. The other play was less than an orbit later, when I had AceKingoff with two other players on King-8-4 flop. The same asian kid to my left pushes his stack in, and a call from another semi-loose player who had my outchipped made me tank it for about 45 seconds (they only have you a minute to call bets, than anyone could call the clock on you). I finally gave it up, knowing I was beat. Sure enough, the kid to my right had flopped two pair (8 & 4's), and the player across the table had indeed flopped the set (The other two 8's). Fantastic fold I thought! As they board ran out, I found out it was a great fold! Unfortunetly as in true in Turbo's, the blinds started going way to fast, and in a field of 288 where only 27 cashed, I finally got knocked out in 30th. I am more than happy with my play, and had a FANTASTIC time!

World Series of Poker Circuit Events - Atlantic City

The wife and I are going to go up to AC this weekend to play. I will be playing in the 1-day Turbo event on Saturday, and my wife will be playing the Ladies Event on Sunday. Back and Healthy

Finally getting back to being around and online, and it feels good. Hopped online last night to play, and decided to try my luck with a $5 KO tournament on Full Tilt. Ended up taking out two people very early in the same hand, which helped because after 2 hours I had only won 4 hands. I did end up playing for a little over 3 hours, when I finally ran my short-stacked AK into a slow-playing Q4 on a Q-high flop. A nice little 51st place finish our of 872 players, with 4 knockouts total, giving me a $8.00 profit. Not too bad for the first time out.

My health is getting better by the day. My blood pressure and blood sugar are both regulated much better, and I have lost 35 pounds since December, the last 20 of which I actually lost by changing my eating habits and starting to walk everyday.

This should lead to be posting here more often, and hopefully seeing you all on the tables.

Medical Problems

I did finally miss one of my own tournaments this last Tuesday, as I was in the hospital after a series of small strokes. I went in on Monday afternoon and was actually finally released on Christmas Eve, having passed a series of tests for balance and cognizant thinking. I am currently on medical leave from work. I am glad the tournement was able to go on without me, and I will update the stats along with the $1 rebuy this coming Tuesday. I hope all had a happy and healty Holidas and please take care of your health so as to not run into the heatlh issues I currently have.

Most people were on holiday from online poker last night, (likely recovering from the Winter Blogger Gathering) as there was no one signed up but me at 9:30. I am going to try to get a 7-Game tournament for next Tuesday, and a $1 NLHE rebuy for the 28th.

Finally starting to learn to play with a little more aggression, plus following more closely hands I am not involved in to get a better idea how others are playing. Made the final table with ease, and played 5 handed for 30+ minutes with very little change in chips until we got down to 4, with 3 of us virtually tied in chips and the super short stack, who went out shortly after. 3 handed last about 20 hands, with the 3rd place finisher pushing almost every hand, and I woke up with Jacks and fade his OESD on the turn and river. Heads up lasted 9 hands, as I was chipping away at the 2nd place finisher almost every hand, and he pushed on the last hand, into my Aces! Small tournament, but it felt good to win one!

Razz last night had a full table of 8 players. After a shaky start, I was up about to about 4,000 chips, then quickly dropped back to the bottom of the players remaining. After edgie212 and MsDredful went out, I started to hit almost everything, capturing 3 bounties and the 1st place finish.

heffmike and his strong 2nd place finish moved very close to NumbBono for the 2009 Leaderboad top spot, and he has 4 tournaments left to try and catch him.

Not that I was surprised by it, with it being two nights before Thanksgiving I was surprise that a few people had even signed in and then left when they saw how small the turnout was. Thanks to H8O8 and MsDredful for their interest at points during the night.

A large number of participants this time, as we had 21 players this week. The whole tournament was still done in just under 3 hours, got to love Pot Limit!

MsDredful in only her 3rd Skillz Game got the win (and knocking me out in 9th).

Omaha 8 Pot Limit Results;

Very little change in the Top 10 overall, SmBoatDrinks 3rd place finished vaulted him from 10th to 9th (jumping me).

A nice turnout of 10 people last night, which kept us at two short handed tables for over an hour. The final results are here:

No major changes on the 2009 Leaderboard, as none of the Top 5 cashed, but Muhctim won his 2nd tournament of the year.

While waiting for the Skillz Game to start, I decided to play a $4 Rebuy for a Seat for FTSOP $100 Omaha Hi Rebuy event. I only had 1 rebuy plus the Add-on, giving me at $12.40 investment. With 22 players playing we actually managed to get enough in rebuys to have 2 seat available, plus $39 for 3rd, $22 for 4th, and $14 for 5th. I easily had the final table, and realzied that the cash would be a much better goal to shoot for, as there were two players at 30,000 chips each, and the rest of us were below 10. Some well timed plays got me to the cash, where I just pushed both the 5th and 4th place finshers out, giving me about 11,000 in chips. The other two then had 38,000 and 31,000 each. I got hyper aggressive with nothing, and semi aggressive when I had a hand, and actually managed to move us to around 22,000. Thinking I had a shot at actually knocking one of the guys out when I witnessed one of the weirdest plays I had ever seen. The two chip leaders went head to head on a hand which led them to get it all in after the flop, with neither of them having more than a pair and draws. The chip leader actually won the hand, and I got my $100 seat, which I cashed out of, thus more than doubling my Full Tilt bankroll.

Nice turnout of 12 people last night, with well over an hour before we lost any players. I ran into some questionable plays (by myself) once I started getting tired after watching the WSOP on ESPN last night, and went out ninth.

NumbBono's 2nd place finish helped move him a little further out front of the pack in the 2009 Leaderboard, and PushMonkey72 picked up his 3rd win of the year.

7 Players came out last night, and several players had tried to talk Waffles into playing, but it didnt happen. No changes at the top of the 2009 leaderboard, but a lot of fun, and some discussion of other games to be brought into the rotation. I am going to attempt to add a 7-Game (HORSE + 2-7 Triple Draw + ??), and may try a Holiday timed $1 Pot Limit High Omaha Rebuy in December.

A very nice 14 players came out on Tuesday night for the Skillz Game, except only 13 of them played. While I had signed up on Monday, I was sick Monday until Wednesday, and I never logged in to play. Which may have been the best move I have made in Poker in a month, as I finished 6th of 14 having never played a hand!

I managed to donk out really early, as both Razz and Stud 8 I was playing terribly. To make up for it though, I took 2nd in a 45 Man $7 Buying Super Turbo for $70+. Net gain for the day. Next week is Limit Hold'em. I played that one at the WSOP this year, just don't ask how I did.

Skillz Game rebounded well this week with 16 people showing up to play some Razz.
Lightning got his 3rd Skillz game win, inpressive win considering when I left to finish my HA tournament, the 4th place finisher had a commanding chip lead:

Below is the Skillz Game 2009 Money Leaderboard. Lightning is a close 4th place now for the year, with Top 4 being very close (one tournament cash really) from jumping ahead of each other. Should be a fun last 4 months of the year on the leaderboard.

I had a very nice run last night, playing good poker in both Pot Limit Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha to get onto the final table, then taking the advice of many blogs I have read about the importance of restealing. This was especailly true when I made it to heads up, when I was at a 8:1 chip disadvantaget to start, but at one point actually took a 2:1 chip lead before getting rivered a few times late to eventually lose. But I will take a 2nd place in a 100+ person tournament, it has been a while.

Played in a pair of Turbo Live tournament on Friday night, $20 buy-in, 5,000 chips, 10 minute levels. Took 2nd in the first one, when I was all in on the big blind (blinds were 16,000/32,000) and there were only 95,000 chips in play total. Actually pulled off the win in the second one, as we chopped the 1st/2ns place money with blinds still at 8,000/16,000 and the chips almost dead even, and then played it out (it lasted one hand).

I will be there tonight, but hopefully will also be able to satellite into the FTOPS Turbo 6-Handed No-Limit tournament also, which the satellite is at 6:30 pm EDT tonight, so if you are on then come and watch/rail me if you would like.

This weeks tournament had a very intersting group, with 8 people coming out to play. All eight of the players had cashed at some point this year, and 6 of the 8 players were in the top 15 overall in earnings. I managed to hold my own for a while before getting knocked out in 5th place. NumbBono got 3rd, Ck got 2nd and Lighting36 got 1st (his 2nd win).

Yes it over a year of me hosting the tournament, but I finally won this one, in which is undoubtly my best game currently (even more so then No Limit). Got some good hands to get myself heads up with iaatg6296 with about an 8:6 chip deficit. Back and forth a lot at the beginning of heads up, and I caught a few hands including the nut flush on the river to eventually get a 6:1 chip lead. Still heads up lasted over 40 hands, and it was a great battle. iaatg finshed 2nd for the 2nd week in a row.

Skillz Game Tonight + WSOP Event #26 = EPIC FAIL

Tonight we play Limit Razz.

The World Series was a huge bust for me. I took the first hand (as the big blind) when everyone folded the whole way around. I got QQ 3 times in the first hour, once where the person to my left ended up having the other two queens, and the player to his left had Pocket 4's which ended up rivering a straight. My one huge hand was when I had QQ and ended up flopping the set, and rivered quads. I took a nice chunk out of the young Asian kid that was playing every hand. He ended up giving me a big hurt back in the 4th level, as he was playing literally any two cards. I got pocket 8's, and bet out on every street with him just calling. He somehow woke up with pockets 9's. I finally pushed my last 850 chips in at the 150/300 level with AcJc, and some online internet "pro" called me with Pocket 7's. I didn't improve, and went home. I am disappointed in finished in the 4th hour, but not with how i played. Hopefully I will get another chance next year.

Vacation Update - The Belmont

I got to California after a few flight delays and a little sleep. I managed to get the computer run in running for the Belmont (last race of Horse Racing's Triple Crown). I had the already decided to pick the 2 Horse - Dunkirk, the 6 Horse - Mine that Bird, and the 7 Horse - Charitable Man. When it came to my Trifecta bet (picking the Top 3 finishers) I decided to throw in the 4 Horse, Summer Bird, who actually had the same father as the favorite Mine that Bird. I had a little extra on Bodog, so I put down a $3 box Trifecta ticket, which cost me $72. Summer Bird came from behind to win the race with 11-1 odds, Dunkirk finished 2nd at 9-2, and Mine that Bird third at 1-1. So my $72 bet ended up paying me $442.50.

The Skillz Game has not been posted yet by Full Tilt for Tuesday, hopefully later this weekend.

I will be heading to Vegas on Thursday and be there until Saturday evening (or Sunday night if I make the final table of Event #26.

Congratulation to CK for winning her BBT4 seat. For those that read her blog and know her, this wasnt too much of a surprise, as Riggstad even called it on her blog yesterday before the event!

NumbBono was runner-up again, but wins enough money to move into 1st place on the Skillz Game 2009 Leaderboard.

Next week is Pot Limit Omaha. Should be quicker, but a much better chance for massive suckouts.

My Brief Thoughts on BBT4

Seems like there is a lot of bloggers talking about the BBT4 lately, with their comments generally about the lack on attendance on some events as the three month event winds up the second month. Here is what I think: What exactly is anyone complaining about? I dont get it. We have this great event, that you can choose to play as many or as few as you want. No one is forcing you. People talk about how there was 140+ in the Mookie in other BBTs previously. Now there are only 80. Ok, I know everyone wants to beat the best competition they can, but considering the times they start, I would rather play 80 people then 140. And yes, the number have come down since the BBT started. I had 84 people in the first Skillz Game event, the lastest event had 45. Do you think I am worried about this? NO. I had some events previous to the BBT4 that had 8 people, having 45 is great. And again, I would rather play less time and have a better chance to get a seat in the TOC with the lesser people. Unlike previous BBT's I have played only 1/4 of the games this time around. Is it because I dont want to? No! I would love to play them all. But with the arrival of my little girl, a lot of things I used to have time to do, I dont anymore. I probably lucky that I now host the Skillz Game, as it gives me an excuse at home to play on Tuesday night. I think a lot of people are spending a lot more of their time on other things, either by choice (theirs or their family) or because things like the economy are making them chose to do so. So that is my 2 cents on this. I say just play the ones you can play, have fun with it, and do you best to win a tournament to get in the TOC. If you are able to play a bunch, then play for the points titles. But dont let everyone elses views of how the BBT4 jade how you feel about it!

Full Tilt Server Problem???

Crashed out of the Mookie last night, but actually came back from the dead in the Mookie, and was sitting 3rd with 3 players left when all of sudden, everything went dead, and the next 20 minutes I get the "trying to reconnect". All my other internet based stuff was working, so I was wondering if I was the only one that had this issue last night?

I also have decided to play more Limit Hold'em MTT in able to work on my game. I got a chance to play on Saturday night, but the only game I could find was a $4.00 buy in on PokerStars, which you take the chances of having a LOT of donkey play involved by your opponents. I am happy to say that I play very well, and will 558 players starting, I finished in 14th. I would have really love to have played at the final table, but I ran a good hand in the chip leader playing his big stack like it was no ones business, and eventually the cards ran cold for me.

Skillz Game Pimping....and WSOP Plans

Tonight is Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo. This should be a lot of fun to watch, not so much for those of us playing. Another BBT4 TOC seat goes to the winner. With my schedule lately, I need to win one of my own tournaments to get into that tournament.

As far as my plans for the World Series of Poker itself, I have managed to win enough playing my live tournments and off of Full Tilt and Bodog to be able to take the money and play one of the $1,500 events this year. As Mrs. CEM, Baby CEM, and myself are planning to visit family in California in early June, we decided to drive down and I will be playing in event #26 - Limit Hold'em that starts on Friday June 12. Hopefully if any of you bloggers are out there, and those that I know already live there, I can get a chance to finally meet some of you. So those are my big plans for this year, for all 5 of my readers (or am I overestimating my readership here?).

Comcast sucks....and Skillz Game Results 7 Stud

Comcast in my area was out for most of yesterday, so I ended up having to play using my Verizon Wireless aircard. Usually not a problem, but I live right up againist a mountain, so the aircard does not work at its best. I must have been disconnected 60 times, and I am truly sorry to those that had to encounter my problems. By the time i finally got some type of service from Comcast, I was already tilting in general, so I ended up going out way earlier then I should have.
